Titanium Grade 5 (Ti6Al4V) is still the standard material for dental abutments. Although CoCr and ceramic abutments are also available, the grade 5 titanium alloy is the most common. There are also dental implants made from grade 5 titanium.

Titanium Grade 5 has established itself as a medical material, so that this material is “approved” for use in medical technology by DIN EN ISO 5832-3.

We only use Grade 5 ELI titanium for our abutments, which is supplied as rod material and given its final shape in lathes. The raw material rods are cold-hardened (KV), which means that the manufacturer has carried out compression close to the surface by pressing.
